Holiday Planner Setup With Printables

img_4035.jpg

We all know how busy Holiday seasons can get.  I created my own Planner for the Holidays that I got inspiration from Pinterest and Youtube.  There are so many different setups and price points.  My Planner was almost free since I had the supplies already on hand at home.  I added dividers in it so I don’t just use it for one Holiday.  Here are my sections:

  • Christmas
  • Thanksgiving
  • Easter
  • Party

IMG_4036

I included the party section as well because I will be hosting a 16th Birthday party soon so I wanted to have that set up.  But I wouldn’t stop at just B-day party in this section.  I would use it for any party or if you are hosting  dinner with  large group of friend this section would work.  We often have a dinner party for all our Camping friends and I thought this section would be great for that.

Materials used:

The Front Page:

I have design the front page my self and I am including a printable for your personal use if you would like to use it.

Toddler and Preschool Memory Game Printable

One of my favourite games to play with young children is a Memory Game. Memory games are very easy to play and they are healthy exercise for their brain, they improve concentration, enhance cognitive skills, train visual memory, boost brain function just to mention few benefits.  I have memory games readily available for children to play at all times.  Sometimes we include it in a group play but it is also good one on one.  I make these memory games for almost every theme that I have in my home daycare.  If you can incorporate some of their favourite characters or things they like it makes the game even more fun.  In this blog I am including a free printable file for you to make at home. It includes some of the fun Disney characters that young children love.

disney memmory game 3

For this game I suggest printing it out on a card stock or heavier printing paper.  You can also laminate it for longer use. Cut out the pictures so they are all the same size.  And that is it.  Very simple and fun.  These games are great to take with you for trips or appointments or any type of an outing since they can fit in a small ziplock bag.

Halloween Wreath DIY

My daughter and I just made these Pintrest inspired wreaths.  We each made one because we have double front doors.  The total cost for each wreath was just under $10.00 and all the supplies came from Dollar Tree and Dollarama.  Here is the list of supplies:

DSC01873

  • 2x wire wreaths $1.25 (dollar tree)
  • 2x halloween colour pipe cleaners $1.25 (dollar tree)
  • 1x orange 1x purple 1x green wide ribbon $2.00 each (dollarama)
  • 2x witch hat with feet $4.00 each (dollarama)
  • scissors

The wreaths were very easy to make but they did take a bit of time.  But in my opinion very well worth it.  And on top of it you get to spend some quality time with your kids.  My daughter is almost 14 so any one on one time I can get I will take.  And to have fun tops it all.

Here is how we did it:

Step one –  is to cut a long 1 inch strip from two of the ribbon . I did this the hole length of the ribbon.  You will use this to hang your wreaths of the door.

Step two –  cut up the rest of the ribbons into 4×4 squares.  I used up all the ribbon.

Step three –  cut up your pipe cleaners into three equal parts.  I used both bags of pipe cleaners

DSC01878

Step four – now its time to put the ribbons together with the pipe cleaners.  We used all three colours and tied them together.  Three ribbon squares one of each colour. You don’t have to mix the colours you can do it all the same it is really up to you how you want your wreath to look.

IMG_3977

Step five– once all your ribbons are done, now it’s time to attach the witch to the wreath.  I used pipe cleaners to attach it.  You need to secure the top of the hat to where you want the center of your wreath to be and than you need to tie up the legs.  You can tie the legs close together or spread apart.  It is totally up to you.

IMG_3975

Step six – now its time to attache the ribbons with the same pipe cleaners that were used to tie them up. You just go around until you are done.

IMG_3976

Step seven – tie the long strip of the ribbon to hang up the wreath.  This step is totally optional.  You can hang up the wreath anyway you want to.

And that is it.  Very simple and easy and it looks great.

Good luck and leave me a comment if you end up make it.  Love to hear how you like it.

Fall Preschool Activities

All these Activities and songs were collected and put together form different sources on Pinterest.  I use this as my planning for the week we celebrate Fall in my Day Care.

SONGS FINGER PLAYS

OH,FALL IS HERE!

(sung to the tune of “Oh, Christmas Tree”)

Oh, fall is here. Oh, fall is here,

And wintertime is coming.

The squirrels get ready. Yes, they do.

They gather nuts to get them through.

The wintertime, cold wintertime,

It’s fall and winter’s coming.

Repeat the song, each time replacing the third and

fourth lines above with a different verse below.

The ducks get ready. Yes, they do.

They migrate south to get them through.

The bears get ready. Yes, they do.

They look for dens to get them through.

The moose get ready. Yes, they do.

They grow thick coats to get them through.

5 LITTLE LEAVES

Five little leaves so bright and gay,

Were dancing about on a tree one day.

The wind came blowing through the town,

And one little leaf came tumbling down.

Four little leaves so bright and gay,

Were dancing about on a tree one day.

The wind came blowing through the town,

And one little leaf came tumbling down.

Three little leaves so bright and gay,

Were dancing about on a tree one day.

The wind came blowing through the town,

And one little leaf came tumbling down.

Two little leaves so bright and gay,

Were dancing about on a tree one day.

The wind came blowing through the town,

And one little leaf came tumbling down.

One little leaf so bright and gay,

Was dancing about on a tree one day.

The wind came blowing through the town,

And that little leaf came tumbling down.

TREE SONG

Tune: When Saints Come Marching In

Oh when the leaves fall off the trees

oh when the leaves fall off the trees

you know that it must be autumn

when the leaves fall of the trees!!

FALL SONGS

Five Little Leaves

Five little leaves in the autumn breeze,

tumbled and fluttered down from the trees.

The first leaf said, I am red

I shall rest in a flower bed.

The second leaf said, I am yellow

I’m a happy-go-lucky fellow.

The third leaf said, I’m violet

pick me up, I’m cold and wet.

The fourth leaf said I am green

when it rains I’m washed all clean.

The fifth leaf said, I am brown

I shall blow all over town.

RAKING LEAVES

I rake and rake the leaves into a great big heap (pretend to rake)

Then into the leaves I take a great big leap (jump and squat)

I cover myself with the leaves and hide from you

Then I jump up and say, “PEEK – A – BOO!” (jump up)

LEAFS ARE FALLING AROUND THE TOWN

(Twinkle, twinkle little star)

Leaves are falling ’round the town

Watch them fall right on the ground.

Autumn’s coming, it is true.

Then comes winter just for you.

Leaves are falling ’round the town

Falling, falling all around.

THE LEAVES ARE FALLING DOWN

(Farmer in the Dell)

the leaves are falling down, the leaves are falling down

School is here and fall is near, the leaves are falling down.

2nd verse – some are red and some are brown

3rd verse –  they tickle your nose and touch your toes

FALL IS HERE

Fall is here now, fall is here now,

H ow do you think I know…

The leaves are falling off the trees

That’s how I really know

(repeat with other signs of fall)

CIRCLE TIME

DAY ONE

About Fall – About Autumn

Autumn is the season that comes between summer and winter. Canadians usually call this season fall because it is a time of falling leaves. The first day of autumn (fall) is celebrated on the fall equinox – a time when both night and day are equal. In the northern half of the world, autumn begins about September 22. In 2008, the Autumn equinox falls on September 22. In the southern half of the world, autumn begins and ends at the time spring begins and ends in the north.

After Autumn, nights begin to lengthen each day until the Winter Solstice in December.

In 2011, fall begins on September 23rd for countries in the Northern Hemisphere (United States, Canada).

I cut out a nice size tree from brown (the trunk) and green (the top) flannel to make a tree.  I then cut out 5 nice size leaves, in fall colors,  to go along with the following poem:

5 little leaves in the tree next door,

1 fell off and then there were 4,

4 little leaves all over the tree,

a bird pulled off 1, and now there are 3,

3 little leaves up where the wind blew,

1 fell off and then there were 2,

2 little leaves sitting in the sun,

a bug ate a leaf and now there is 1,

1 little leaf in the tree alone,

the wind blew and blew and now there are none!

DAY TWO

Trees Throughout the Year

Show pictures of a tree in the spring, summer, fall and winter. Ask the children what season it is based on the picture. Talk about the leaves on the tree for each season.

Leaf Match

Set out two of each kind of leaf and have the children find the matches.

DAY THREE

“Fall Feely Box”

Learning different textures and identifying them is fun for young preschool and kindergarten children.  Materials: Leaves, acorns, pine cones, nuts, apples, and other things you have discussed. You’ll need a box the children can fit their hands into without seeing inside. I use a large shoe box. With a hole cut in the top.

Description: Teachers, without the children seeing you, add the objects in the box.  During circle time have the children take turns feeling inside the box.  Ask each child to describe what he or she feels and what they think it is.

DAY FOUR

Life cycle of a Pumpkin – use a print out from below and discuss the life cycle.  You may also bring in actual seeds and pumpkins.

Weighing Acorns and Pinecones

A scale, acorns, and pinecones should be brought to the circle and children can weigh them to see the difference in weight.

DAY FIVE

Triangle, oval and round.

Leaf Math

Use the pattern below and print out two copies.  Cut them out.  Children can match the identical leaves.

SENSORY

The sensory table with deer corn, some cups for pouring, and the scale for measuring are a favorite activity.

SCIENCE

Place an ear of Indian corn on a shallow dish of water. Fill dish so that it just covers bottom third of corn – corn should not be submerged. place in sun or under a lamp and watch it grow

Variety of gourds in our science center garner a lot of attention, discussion, and close observation

CRAFTS

AUTUMN WREATH

One of my favorite leaf art activities is to make autumn wreaths. Have different shapes and colors of leaves cut out of paper – acorns also. A stiff paper circle with the middle cut out (paper plates with middle cut out would work good too.)  The children can glue the leaves onto their circles front and back.  Put a hole punch through put a string through and hang – they look beautiful!

GLITTER LEAVES

I have collected small size leaves and pressed them in magazines for several days.  On Monday the children will paint the leaves with glue and then press them onto black paper to make a “glue” leaf print.  Then they will sprinkle glitter over their leaf print.  These are very striking against the black background!  Sometimes children also want to use the leaf they made the original print from.  Since glue is left on their leaf after the print, they can easily shake glitter onto these as well.  I then staple the stem onto a piece of paper to dry and take home.

CRAYON RUBBING

After reading one of any number of fall books I like to do leaf rubbings.

Materials: Fresh fall leaves, various shapes thin paper  fall colored crayons, use flat side

Place leaves on table with the vein side up.  Cover with the paper.  Holding paper still use flat side of crayon to lightly rub over the leaf — the shape “magically” appears!  Use a different leaf or just change position of paper and crayon color for another image.  Overlap the leaf shapes if you like — it looks nice!  One children get the hang of it they can all be successful

PAINTED LEAF PRINTS

Materials: fresh fall leaves various fall colors of tempra paint construction paper

Have children paint their choice of color on the leaf.  After the leaf is painted to the child’s satisfaction move the leaf to a clean spot, painted side up.  Have child put the construction paper on top of the painted leaf.  Have the child rub their hands all over the paper, this transfers the paint to the paper.  Let child paint and transfer the print as many times as they want on the paper.

GARDEN STONE

What You Need:

  • 1 cup of sand
  • 1/2 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon powdered alum
  • 3/4 cup of hot water
  • Food coloring of child’s choice
  • Assortment of items child would like to decorate with.
  • Plastic pastel butterflies
  • Colored stones

What You Do:

(This recipe only makes one stone) Might want to adjust to the size of your class.

Ask the children what is their mother’s favorite color and then go from there in making the dough.

  1. Mix sand, cornstarch, and alum in bowl.
  2. Add hot water, stirring vigorously until well blended.
  3. Add food coloring and blend.
  4. Cook over medium heat until thick, stirring constantly.
  5. When cooled, Encourage children to flatten the dough out and make it the shape they prefer. Encourage them to decorate their stone. We had the letters M and O cookie cutters on the table and some of the children put the word “mom” on their stone by pushing the cutters in the dough.
  6. Dry pieces in the sunshine for several days.
  7. Lay out tissue paper, tape and ribbon, encourage children to wrap their gift for their mom’s and if they would like make a card to go with their gift.

BOOKS

http://www.the-best-childrens-books.org/fall-books.html

GROSS MOTOR

Trace & cut out red, green, brown and gold leaves from construction paper. Pass them out along with fall colored streamers 2 per child Have them decorate the leaves with stickers and or fall colored glitter.  As you say the following rhyme, have the children line up along the wall and listen for the color of streamer/leaf they have.  When each hears his color have them wave their streamers with the leaf attached to the end and pretend to be a leaf floating on the wind.

Leaves’ could be playing. Verse:

Leaf of red, leaf of green,

Prettiest leaf I’ve ever seen.

Leaf of brown, leaf of gold,

Sometimes flat, sometimes rolled.

Falling from the trees so high,

Blowing in the autumn sky.

Soon the snow will begin to blow,

Then in Spring new leaves will grow.

COOKING

LEAF PILES  – snack –

The recipe is 6 cups cornflakes, 1 cup MAPLE syrup, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup peanut butter.  In a microwave melt the maple syrup, sugar, and peanut butter together.  Pour over the cornflakes and place them in piles.  Let them cool and dry a little.  Then enjoy your leaf piles on your leaf day.

Easter Preschool Activities

Easter is a great theme to celebrate with children.  I like to provide children with simple activities that will challenge them but will not be too challenging for them.  And most of all they need to be engaging and fun.

One of my favourite activities is easter egg hunt.  I get my own children to help me with this one since they are too old for it but enjoyed it a lot when they were younger.  We hide eggs all over the back yard for children to find.  We find simple spots and some harder ones too.  I use plastic easter eggs that I had purchased at the dollar store.  I don’t put anything in them, instead at the end when children are done with looking for eggs I give them Easter Stickers or Tattoos or small easter treat bags that might have sml. coloring books, playdough, crayons etc.  I don’t usually include junk food.    This is a great outdoor activity but being that it is Spring Time sometimes weather doesn’t cooperate so we do this activity in our playroom inside.

For Craft Time here are a few ideas:

For Easter Egg coloring I hard boil the eggs first and than I use food coloring and water with 1 tbs of vinegar.  Vinegar I find makes colors more vibrant.

If your child or child in your care is suffersing from egg allregies I love using these eggs IMG_1199

You can find these at dollar store.  They are made out of styrofoam.  Unfortunately you can not color them the same way as you would regular eggs.  Instead we use acrylic paint and they just paint them with paintbrush.

Easter Book Suggestions:

For Cognitive Development one of my favourite games to play is the one I made my self with Pinteres inspiration:

IMG_1200

The supplies that you will need are a muffin pan, construction paper and plastic easter eggs.  Cut out circles to fit inside each muffin in the pan.  Glue it down to the bottom.  Children can match the colored eggs to the color of the bottom of the pan.

Raising a Teenage Daughter – Things no one told you

When my daughter was born I was so happy.  I already had a boy and was hoping for a girl.  She was so sweet while growing up, very independent and I meant the world to her.  She was very attached to me especially when she was a baby.  And than she turned 13.

While I was pregnant I got so many in my opinion unnecessary advice.  Even when they were little they would give you advice how to feed them, what’s best for them etc.  Every one had an opinion that they wanted to push on you.  But not one of them mentioned what happens when they turn 13, not one.

So I am here to give you that advice my self and to warn you what is there to come.

  1.  You are not Cool – no matter what you do or how much you think you are.  You are NOT and your daughter will let you know that almost every day.
  2.  She always needs to go somewhere-sports, friends house, extra school work, shopping. Just think if you were a cab driver and your charged them for every ride, you would live a different lifestyle.
  3. Always something hurts and needs to be massaged. Head, neck, knee, back, stomach.  Every single day.
  4. There is soooo much attitude every single day. From rolling her eyes to storming off upstairs.
  5. She has Multiple personalities:
    1. Best Friend – this personality  almost never comes out.  This is your little girl that wants to be with you, spend time with you and listen to you.
    2. Sweet Angel – this personality comes out a bit more than Best Friend.  This one asks to be tucked in, always telling you she loves you, kisses goodnight.
    3. Early Morning Evil – This personality shoots fire out of her mouth when asked a question and you run for cover wishing you left for work already. This evil personality usually shows up on early mornings.
    4. Know it all – this one comes out every time you try to give advice or suggestion regarding everything.
    5. Marry Poppins – caring, mature, smiling person that is willing to help before you even ask.  This personality comes out least amount of time.

So here are my warnings and advice.  The only thing I was ever told is that it doesn’t last.  I hope it doesn’t last.

Create 365 Planner Storage Bag

So I have been traveling for my children’s sports very often this year.  I like to take my planners with me so I can plan during down times.  I have been packing them in different bags and totes trying to figure out what is the best way to do this.  Than I came across the Create 365 bag and I have to say my problems ended.  I can’t say enough about this bag  it just works.

I have three planners that I use on daily basis.  One is personal, one for fitness and meal journaling and one for work.  They all fit in this bag.

The Create 365 Storage Case is available at craft stores that sell The Happy Planner products.  I got mine at Michaels for $49.99cnd but I was able to save 55% off using a coupon.  The case is  well made with great smooth zippers, mint piping and reinforced handles.  It measures 12” wide x 10.5” high x 4″ deep and is made of nylon material which makes it very light weight.  The case lays completely flat it has two main compartments, each accessible by a double zipper.

img_1062

I packed my personal planner in one compartment along with my fine tip markers and other supplies such as scissors, glue, paper clips etc. inside the two zip top style vinyl pouches that velcro into the case to keep them in place.

In the second compartment I packed my other two planners, my planner stickers and my washi tape.

img_1059

This bag worked perfectly for me as I was able to keep all of my supplies in one place.  I liked how organized I was and when I wanted to plan during my weekend away all I had to do is take my bag with me where ever I was planning.  I even took it to the pool and did some planning between the games.

If you would like to check out a video on how I packed my bag you can do so here

Home Binder Set Up

For some time now I have been toying with the idea of setting up my Home Binder.  I read a few blogs on it from different bloggers and watched few videos on it as well.  I just needed time and ideas to make my own.  So I finally got around to doing it this week.  I posted a video on it as well and you can find it on my channel or clicking here Home Binder Set up and Flip Through.

img_1043

Here is how I did it:

Supplies needed:

  • Binder ( I got mine at the dollar store) you want one that has a clear pocket on the front of it
  • glue
  • scissors
  • sharpies
  • page dividers
  • three whole punch
  • page protectors
  • lined paper
  • shelf liner
  • printing paper

I spruce up my binder with cutting out the shelf liner so it fits in the front pocket of the binder.  I cut out the printing paper and wrote a title on it and glued that to the front of the shelf liner.  Than I slid that in the front pocket of the binder.

Sections:

I have following Sections in the binder – these are ones I wanted to have in my Binder you can put what ever works for you:

  • Calendar
  • Carpooling Schedule
  • Phone Numbers
  • Freezer Meals
  • Home Projects
  • Home Maintenance
  • Gift Ideas
  • Travel Lists
  • Shopping List for the Home
  • Birthdays List
  • Monthly Meal Plan
  • Coupons
  • Cleaning Schedule

Breakdown of Sections:

Calendar – I keep monthly calendars where I will write down for example when I need to change furnace filter, our vacations, tournaments and weekend aways, Birthdays etc.

img_1048

Carpooling Schedule – this is for my children’s sports and activities.  We have three families that participate and we design a schedule that works for all of us at the beginning of the season.  I write it down in the weekly schedule along with all other weekly happening that happen every week at the same time.

img_1049

Phone Numbers – I also keep all of these numbers in my phone but I like to keep a master list for everyone’s reference and in case something happens to my phone.  Numbers that are included in here are doctors, dentists, specialists, schools, couches, etc.

img_1050

Freezer Meals – I make freezer meals every three moths.  I usually have a standard plan for colder moths and different one for warmer months.  I will keep track of supplies that I need for freezer meal prep here.  As well as I attached a clear page protector that I can slide any new recipes that I might come across.  I will also write out my plan for freezer meal prep here as well.

Home projects – this is a section for things I want to get done.  I will put pictures, ideas, swatches as well as plans on how to accomplish these projects.  I will also write down a shopping list for these projects here.

Home Maintenance – this section is for things that have to get done.  I will write the same stuff down as home projects here.

Gift Ideas – This section is mostly for me to write down ideas for b-days, Christmas etc.  Sometimes family members mention things that they would like or things they want and I usually forget about them so this is a good way for me to write them down and keep them in one place for reference.

Travel Lists – I keep my master packing lists here for Camping,  Down South and Disney (this is my Master Disney Packing list that I use THE ULTIMATE DISNEY WORLD PACKING LIST.  I will also write down things I need to buy for our travel.

img_1052

Shopping lists – I will write anything that I need to buy for the house for example more filters, lightbulbs, room deodorizers, potting soil etc.

Birthday Lists – this will keep my master birthday list for all the family members

Monthly Meal Plan – I plan out my dinners for the whole month almost every moth so I will keep this here.  If you would like to see how I meal plan you can read my blog Meal Planning 101 or watch a video How I Meal Plan – Meal Planning 101.

img_1035

Coupons – I inserted a page protector in this section so I can put any coupon that I come across and might use in here.

Cleaning Schedule – I will put my weekly plan here as well my zone cleaning list.  If you wold like to see my Zone cleaning list you can read it here How I Sep Up My Zone Cleaning

img_1054

I hope this Binder works for me to keep things organized and I am looking forward to using it.

Do you have a home binder?  Do you Like it?
