Small Laundry Room Makeover on a Budget | Easy Organization Ideas That Actually Work

Welcome back, friends! If your laundry space is feeling more like a cluttered catch-all than a calm and functional corner, you’re not alone. Our laundry room had definitely seen better days — despite a mini refresh a few years back, it was due for some serious TLC.

In this post, I’m sharing how I transformed our small laundry room with budget-friendly organization ideas, some cozy DIY touches, and a few affordable finds that made a big difference. Whether you’re working with a tiny nook or a full room, I hope this gives you a little inspiration to make your space work better for you.

Why It Was Time for a Refresh

A few years ago, I added a stick-on backsplash, painted the walls, and even created a DIY countertop using a stainless-steel tabletop from IKEA wrapped in contact paper from Dollar Tree. It held up surprisingly well! But the space had gotten cluttered again, and some of the storage solutions just weren’t practical anymore.

Functional & Beautiful: What I Updated

Bamboo Shade:
We replaced the old dusty blinds with a gorgeous bamboo shade in a coconut color from Two Pages Curtains. It provides privacy, still lets in natural light, and looks great even when it’s down — exactly what this tight corner needed.

Wall Mounts & Cleaning:
My husband helped mount our vacuum cleaner and I took the time to do a deep clean of the washer (including that forgotten filter at the bottom!) and rubber gasket. A little bleach, elbow grease, and a drain later — it was fresh and ready to go.

Organization with Glass Jars & Labels:
I created my own printable laundry labels (linked below!) and used a mix of Dollarama containers, thrifted bottles, and glass jars to store:

  • Laundry detergent
  • Towel soap
  • Fabric softener
  • Scent boosters
  • OxiClean
  • Stain removers
  • Dryer balls
Everything is easy to access and now beautifully displayed on Dollarama turntables and in thrifted rattan baskets.

A Few Cozy Touches:
I added a diffuser (lemongrass + orange is my favorite laundry day combo), a little faux greenery to hide an outlet, and a spray-painted IKEA rack on the wall, I also hung three white containers for cleaning brushes, a decorative floral stems, and homemade soaps.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a big budget or a fancy mudroom to create a space that feels calm, clean, and beautiful. With a little effort and creativity, even the smallest rooms in our homes can become something we’re proud of.

Thanks for following along with this little refresh!
