How I Use Essential Oils in My Home

I have been into essential oils for several years now. I love using them every day so I decided to share how I use them and my favourite blends with you. Here are five ways that I use essential oils for healthier mind and body.

  1. Cleaning Products – I make my own cleaning products with vinegar and water and love add adding essential oils to them so my house smells good. Some essential oil even have a disinfecting abilities. Here is how I make them: You need some sort of essential oil. Here are the ones I use Lemon (antiviral and antibacterial ), Wild Orange (Great against grace) and Eucalyptus (natural germicide). You mix water and vinegar you can do equal parts of water and vinegar. I tend to to 75%vinegar and 25% water and about 20-30 drops of essential oil depending on how much you are mixing. For example if you make 32oz cleaner you will need 30 drops of essential oil. This is an all purpose cleaner. If you would like to see how I make most of my household cleaners you can read it here
  2. Defusing – I love defusing oils in my home. I found different blends to be mood lifting, make my headache go away, fight colds and also combat household smells. Here are my favourite oil combinations and their uses: For Happiness : 2 drops of each Ylang Ylang; Orange and Lavander. For Anxiety : 5 drops of Lemongrass, 4 drops of Frankincense, 3 drops of orange and 2 drops of Peppermint. Calm Your Mind: 3 drops of Lavender, 3 drops of Orange, 1 drop Ylang Ylang, and 2 drops of Patchouli oil. For Stress: 6 drops of Cedarwood, 4 drops of Lavender and 2 drops of Frankincense For Cold : 8 drops of Eucalyptus, 8 drops of Peppermint, 7 drops of Tea Tree oil, 5 drops of lemon For household smell: 5 drops of Lavender oil, 5 drops of tea tree oil, 2 drops of peppermint, 2 drops of Rosemary and 1 drop of Lemon oil.
  3. For roll ons I use jojoba oil but you can use any carrier oil. The blends I use are: Headache Blend : 10 drops of Frankincense, 5 drops of Lavender and 5 drops of Peppermint Tension or Relaxation : 8 drops of Frankincense , 8 drops of clary sage, 5 drops of Lemon, 5 drops of bergamot, 5 drops of Orange, 5 drops of grapefruit.
  4. For Bath time : I love to take baths and have calming scents around me. This is a great time to use essential oils and natural products. For Bath I like to use Epson salts with Essential oils. Some of my favourite blends are: For Detox : 1 cup of epson salt, 2 drops of lavender, lemon and peppermint. For Sore Muscles: 1 cup of Epson salt, you can also add baking soda(/4 cup) and sea salt(1 cup) with 10 drops of Lavender and 10 drops of Eucalyptus For Relaxing: 1 cup of Epson salt, 5 drops Bergamot, 5 drops of Cedarwood and 10 drops of Lavender.
  5. For Body scrubs (exfoliant) – Love exfoliating while in the tub and one of my favourite ways is using homemade exfoliants. These are the ones I use: Coconut Salt Scrub: Coarse Sea Salt (1cup), Fractionated Coconut Oil (1/2 cup), 25-30 drops of essential oils, I use equal amounts of Lavender and Grapefruit. Sugar Scrub : 1 1/2 cups of Sugar (you can use brown, organic, or white) I use white sugar. 1/4 cup of Oil ( you can use olive or coconut ) I use whatever I have on hand 5-8 drops of Lavender Essential Oils.

There are so many different ways to use essential oil in your everyday life, I thought I share with you ways that I use the essential oils at home.
