DIY Natural Cleaning Products

Most of us are looking for ways to live a cleaner more chemical free life.  Unfortunately there are so many chemical free products out there that just don’t do the job or are astronomical expensive.  I have been in search for homemade natural products that work for over a year now. I think I have finally found a handful that I am happy with and that work for me.  So I have decided to share them with you.

Here are the materials that you will need:

  • Empty Spray Bottles
  • Cleaning Vinegar
  • Baking Soda
  • Olive Oil
  • Funnel
  • Essential Oil
  • Dish Soap
  • Glass Container
  • Spoon
  • Water
  • Labels

With these materials I have made following cleaners:

Wood Cleaner:

  • 1/4 Vinegar
  • 1/4 Cup of Oil ( I used olive oil)
  • 10 drops of essential oil (I used wild orange)

Mix all ingredients together using a funnel in the spray bottle.  Shake well before each use.  I use it once a month to dust all my wood surfaces but not the wood floor or wood stairs.  Makes them too slippery.

All Purpose Cleaner (not to be used on marble or travertine)

  • 1/2 cup of Vinegar
  • 1/2 cup of Water
  • 10 drops of essential oils (I used Lemon Oil)

Mix all the ingredients together using a funnel in a spray bottle.  This cleaner can be used on your laminate counter tops, stainless steel appliances, bathrooms sinks even the toilets.

Window Cleaner

  • 1/2 cup of Vinegar
  • 1/2 cup of Water

Mix the ingredients together using a funnel in a spray bottle.  Some people like to add essential oils in this as well.  I don’t because I found it is not as streak free as just plain with water and vinegar.

Air Freshener

  • 1/2 cup of Baking soda
  • 10 drops of essential oil of your choice.
  • mason jar
  • cheese cloth

Mix the baking soda and the essential oil in a small mason jar.  You can use a cheese clothe to cover it or make holes in the lid of a mason jar.  I like to put this in a car, empty dishwasher and washing machine before I go on holidays or small bathrooms.  It makes the spaces smell fresh especially dishwasher and washing machine.

Scouring cleanser – Paste

  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 Tbs dish soap
  • vinegar just enough to make a paste

Mix all the ingredients together until it makes a paste.  Place it in a small mason jar.  Use it with a microfibre cloth or a scouring sponge depending what surface you are cleaning.  Great for those really tough stains like grease stains on your stove top and BBQ.  Use can even use it to scrub the grout.
